History of sports medicine and science of the Japan Sports Association began when it established sports Medical Consultation Office in 1947 as it set out manage the health of athletes and offer medical counseling. Afterwards, to promote the strengthening of athletes in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, it organized the Sports Scientific Research Committee (now, Sports Medicine and Science Research Committee) in 1960, and came to advance activities that support the strengthening of athletes such as promoting training doctor placement in various competing groups. Since 1975, in addition to research regarding improved competitive advantage and strengthening of athletes, it has developed research activity for promoting national sports, and has come to promote the improved competitive advantage of Japan from the aspect of sports medicine and science as well as the promotion of national sports.
